Movie Premiere: Hemanter Aparanha

Director and actor Ashoke Viswanathan, a filmmaker who consistently ignites excitement among cinephiles, has once again delivered a cinematic gem with his latest creation, Hemanter Aparanha  translating to ‘Autumn Afternoon’. Premiered at the Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) – 2023, the movie upholds Viswanathan's reputation for celluloid narratives with a masterly difference.

Set in a small town in the aftermath of the pandemic, Hemanter Aparanha skillfully captures the unnoticed nuances of daily life. The narrative unfolds as a theatre group stages a Bengali adaptation of a Pirandello play, featuring a retired, elderly, lonely bachelor in a pivotal role. His interactions with a young, aspiring actress expose the insecurities of a tremulous time.

Tathagata Bhattacherjee, a notable filmmaker, praised the film after witnessing the Nandan-2 show, stating, "The film, like all his earlier presentations, bears maestro Ashoke Viswanathan’s Cerebral Cinema stamp. The finesse with which he unravels the underlying period emotions is worth miles to travel and learn."

Anusha Viswanathan delivers a stunning  performance, while actor Satyapriya Mukhopadhyay shines in portraying the complex ethos of the central character. The film is held up by Ritabroto Mukhopadhyay, Bidipta Chakraborty, Ashoke Viswanathan, Tamal Roychowdhury, Sudip Mukherjee, Mahi Gorwale, Goutam Shankar, Payel Mukherjee, Subrata Dutta, and Moubani Sarcar.

DOP Joydeep Bhowmik, editor Arghyakamal Mitra, sound designers Abdul Rajjak and Sujoy Das, and music director Gourab Chattopadhyay, breathe life into the intricacies of this cinematic masterpiece.

Helmed by Ashoke Viswanathan and Amit Agarwal, Hemanter Aparanha stands as an Adarsh Telemedia Presentation of an AV Production film. The film not only meets but exceeds the expectations of cinema enthusiasts, solidifying Ashoke Viswanathan's position among the rare filmmakers who consistently deliver adrenaline-inducing cinematic experiences.
