Rohini Iyer lambasts celebrities for sharing vacation pictures amid a pandemic

Prompts Shobha De and Nawazuddin Siddiqui to also take a stand

As Covid cases surge in India, many celebrities are seen vacationing at various exotic locations. Enraged by the insensitivity, entrepreneur Rohini Iyer was the first one to slam these stars for their actions.

Touted as the power icon of India, Rohini took to social media and said, “For all of you vacationing in Maldives and Goa and exotic locales, remember, it’s a holiday for you. It’s a bloody pandemic all over. So don’t be an insensitive idiot and post pictures of your privileged life. This is not the time to boost your Instagram numbers. This is the time to step up and help, or if you can’t do anything, then shut up and stay home! Or stay quiet in your holiday home.. masked up. No photos. This is not Fashion Week or Kingfisher calendar time!”

The powerful message not only struck a chord with people across the nation but also prompted renowned writer Shobha De to repost the same. Calling it the “height of vulgarity”, De praised Rohini for “passionately articulating” the much-needed message.

Now, following the league is Nawazuddin Siddiqui. The actor recently lashed out at the celebrities for throwing their privileges at the countrymen who are battling a deadly virus.

As India reels under the second wave of Coronavirus, Rohini started a positive and empathetic trend. It will be interesting to see who follows it next?

Meanwhile The Maldives Tourism Ministry has announced that it is stopping tourists from India. Looks like someone heard it.
